Dr. Kratky has been actively involved in crystallographic structure determination of biomolecules for many years. His research interests have focussed on enzymes relevant for biocatalysis (e.g. esterases, xylanases, hydroxynitrile lyases and oxygenases) as well as on the B12 cofactor, both in its free and enzyme-bound state. Other research interests include methodological studies relating to the use of xenon in protein crystallography. A recently started research area involves structure elucidation of protein components of the lipid metabolism, using a combination of molecular biology, bioinformatics and structural biology.
